Box 1804 Niceville, Florida 32588 October 25, 2012 Ms. Cathy Cardreon Executive Assistant Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners 1804 Lewis Turner Boulevard, Suite 100 Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547 Dear Ms. Cardreon, We are pleased to announce that our inaugural multisport event, the “Bluewater Bay Duathlon,” was a great success. We had almost 200 participants and raised over $1700 in proceeds that we were able to donate equally to the EOD Memorial Fund and the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation. We are thrilled to be planning the second annual Bluewater Bay Duathlon and anticipate an even greater response! This event will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at L.J. Schooner’s in Bluewater Bay. The Duathlon will consist of a 1 mile run, a 13.5 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run. Just as last year, fifty percent (50%) of the proceeds of this event will be donated equally to the EOD Memorial Foundation and the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation. We will also support the Airman’s Attic and the Niceville High School Band. The Bluewater Bay Duathlon will open to participants at 5:30 am with a race start time of 7:30 am. We anticipate that all participants will have completed the course by 9:30 am, at which time the post- race Awards Ceremony will begin. The Bluewater Bay Duathlon bike course will cross John Sims Parkway at one intersection (see attached map, Attachment “A”), allowing participants to bike around the EOD Memorial. This is the most meaningful part of the course as it reminds participants of one of the primary purposes of the Bluewater Bay Duathlon. We wish to apply for the appropriate permits to allow our duathlon course through the following intersection: Jobn Sims Parkway (S.R. 20) and Bluewater Bay Boulevard. We have contacted the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office regarding approval and manning of this event. We are also applying to the Department of Transportation to secure a permit. Please find our required certificates of insurance attached to this letter (Attachment “B”). Our volunteers will wear Emerald Coast Triathlon Club T-shirts so that they are easily recognizable. We assure you that we will conduct this Duathlon in a courteous, professional, and safe manner with respect for our participants and our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at (661) 361-4634. Thank you for your consideration. ». ely, yy) . Dori le LUN Emerald Coast Triathlon Club
