SUBJECT: Letter of Support for Sylvania Heights Research Project
DEPARTMENT: Growth Management
BCC DISTRICT: District 4 - Commissioner Amunds
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Greater Sylvania Heights Front Porch Program has requested a
letter of support from the Board of County Commissioners for an environmental research project
in the Sylvania Heights area.
BACKGROUND: The Sylvania Heights Front Porch Program has, over the past several years,
been working to identify and resolve environmental issues associated with past land uses in and
around the greater Sylvania Heights area. The proposed project, to be undertaken in conjunction
with Tuskegee University and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, will build on
prior efforts, including those of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida
State University.
OPTIONS: The BCC can send the requested letter or decline to do so.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
authorize the Chairman to sign the attached letter and that it be sent to Dr. Rueben C. Warren of
Tuskegee University who is coordinating the project.
