CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Deer Point Elementary School in Lynn Haven, FL
Lord & Son provided Construction Management at Risk services for the construction of a new two-story
elementary school for the Bay County School District with a concrete foundation and slab, masonry exterior
walls with structural steel/load bearing masonry with steel trusses and a standing seam roof. Interior features
included painted CMU and drywall, acoustical ceilings, carpet VCT, and hard tile. Encompassing over 114,000
square feet, this educational facility was constructed to current high wind design criteria. Special construction
included the latest telecommunication and fire alarm systems and a complete cafeteria with state-of-the-art
kitchen and food preparation area. Site amenities included a sewage lift station, playgrounds, ball fields, bus
loading areas, and staff parking lots.
The project ran smoothly with only one factor of note. Due to the amount of wetlands immediately adjacent
to the school, it was necessary to plan and utilize very small staging areas and constantly monitor all
construction activities close to the wetlands boundary. Material deliveries required focused delivery
schedules, and construction activities, including all site work operations, were closely monitored to prevent
any pollution.
The Owner Direct Purchase Program was initiated and managed by Lord & Son, with materials in the amount
of $6,516,700 and a tax savings to the owner of approximately $400,000.
