CALL TO ORDER 5: 00 PM Meeting was called to order on September 13, 2011 at Council Chamber, 107 Miracle Strip Parkway, Fort Walton Beach, FL. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Mayor led in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. ACTION ITEMS 1. Mission and Vision Statements Request City Council approve recommended City of Fort Walton Beach Mission and Vision Statements and direct the City Manager to initiate their implementation. The City Manager outlined the status of the Performance Excellence Program and that tonight Council would consider the City's mission and vision statements. Ken Perkins, Fire Chief, explained that to establish the Performance Excellence Program three critical elements must be formally instituted. The core values have already been approved by Council; what is needed now is a meaningful and accurate mission statement and a clear vision statement. Chief Perkins continued the mission statement should be a statement that brings internal focus to the City's workforce and all City personnel should be able to identify how they contribute to meeting the mission of the City. The recommended mission statement is as follows: " To enhance and protect the community by providing quality services." The recommended vision statement is as follows: " The City of Fort Walton Beach; a recognized leader in the provision of community services." The vote on the motion to approve the recommended City of Fort Walton Beach Mission and Vision Statements and direct the City Manager to initiate their implementation carried unanimously.
