BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: August 5, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Dino J. Villani
SUBJECT: Baker Act Screening and Crisis Stabilization Unit Services Agreement
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the agreement with Ft. Walton Beach Medical
Center to provide Baker Act Screening and Crisis Stabilization Unit services for Fiscal Year
2015 at a cost of $266,738.04.
BACKGROUND: The County currently has an agreement with Fort Walton Beach Medical
Center to provide Baker Act services to the County's indigent population.
This agreement was updated in 2013 and is amended each year as funding is provided in the
County's budget to continue to provide some of these required and important services to the
County's indigent population. Okaloosa and Walton Counties are in the same indigent mental
health care funding service area. Both Counties are responsible to provide a 25% match of the
total amount of uninsured funding provided to our service area by the state. Our portion is
calculated on the percent of the uninsured population we have as estimated by the US census
bureau. That percentage is 72% and as a result the total costs of our portion of the match
requirement for FY 2015 is $266,738.04. This agreement will provide that amount to Ft. Walton
Beach Medical Center to help fund the Baker Act Inpatient Services and Crisis Stabilization
Unit.
OPTIONS: Approve or disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the agreement with Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
