Cellular Modem Modules Engineering Specifications January 20, 2010 1) INSTRUMENT A) There shall be famished a CDMA or GSM digital cellular modem module. It shall be possible to stack and/ or interconnect a single modem module to multiple compatible modules in the field for simultaneous remote monitoring of multiple flow streams. The modem module shall allow the user to retrieve data from flow modules that are located in a manhole without opening or removing the manhole cover and without a physical connection with the flow modules. The modem module shall be capable of issuing dial -out text message alarms to cellular phones and pagers. A battery module shall provide power to operate the modem module. B) The modem module shall be a field -interchangeable module. It shall be possible to stack and interlock a modem module, up to three other 2100 Series measurement modules, and a battery module to build an integrated system 2) DESCRIPTION A) Standby current shall be 0.41 mA, and typical current shall be 141 mA at 12 volts. Input voltage range shall be 9.0 volts to 16. 6 volts DC. Actual battery life will vary depending upon configuration, but typical battery life shall be 291 days assuming interrogation with Flowlink software once a week, with a site configuration of a 21030 or 2103G, 2150, and 2191 using Energizer 529 batteries), a connection speed of 33, 600 bps, and the 2150 configured to record level, velocity, flow rate every 15 minutes, total flow, and battery voltage every 24 hours). B) Direct connection to the modem module shall be possible with a cable with a push -on, quick -connect connector that can be easily connected and removed in the field. C) The modem module shall have a single LED. The LED shall remain on when data is being transferred. D) The modem module shall be housed in a rugged, submersible, watertight, dust - tight, corrosion resistant ( self certified - NEMA 4X, 6P, and IP67) enclosure. E) Operating temperature range shall be —20 °C to 60° C (- 4 °F to 140 0F). G) 2103 cellular modules shall be equipped with one of three specified types of antenna: [( magnetic mount whip)(buried in pavement)( mounted in manhole lid)] t. 3) OPERATION A) The modem module shall establish program settings automatically upon power - up. B) The modem module shall upload its data to Isco Flowlink 4. 13 ( or later) software installed on a PC. The computer shall be capable of communication with the module through a digital cellular modem or a direct RS -232 connection. When connecting through a digital cellular modem, the module shall support communication speeds of 300 to 33, 600 baud. The RS -232 connection shall support a communication speed from 9,600 to 38, 400 baud, using data of 8 bit, no parity, one stop bit. C) The modem module shall be capable of pushing data to a server with an SQL or Oracle database management system every 5 minutes to 24 hours. The stored data can then be simultaneously viewed on the central database by multiple authorized users. 2 D) The modem module shall be equipped with MODBUS communications capabilities, independent of Flowlink, enabling the data to be linked to monitoring and/ or process control systems and software.
