1. GENERAL
1. 1 The flow monitor shall be a new durable, self -contained, environmentally sealed unit
designed to continuously and reliably measure wastewater flows at remote locations in a sanitary
sewer. The monitor shall be designed for both permanent applications and temporary applications
that involve the repeated removal and re- installation of the monitor. Once installed, the monitor
shall reliably measure flow for as long as the monitor is activated for service. The monitor shall
measure depth of flow and velocity in the same cross -section of a pipe. The monitor shall be
capable of calculating flow rates using both the Continuity Equation and Manning's Equation. The
flow monitor shall be capable of measuring flows in pipe sizes ranging from 6 inches to 108 inches
in diameter. The flow monitor shall work properly when wastewater flow is within the pipe, under
prolonged surcharged conditions, and when the monitor is submerged.
1. 2 The additional requirements of each monitor are identified below. Any ancillary items
necessary to make the monitor fully functional shall be included as a requirement although such
items may not be specifically called out in these specifications.
2. FLOW MONITOR
2. 1 The flow monitor shall be an open -channel flow module suitable for multi- site
monitoring. An area/ velocity sensor shall be used to measure flow rate. A battery module shall
provide power to operate the flow module. It shall be possible to stack and/ or interconnect multiple
flow modules in the field for simultaneous monitoring of multiple flow streams and/ or for obtaining
redundant measurements. The flow monitor shall be an Isco 2150 or equivalent.
2.2 The flow module shall be a field- interchangeable measurement and data storage
system. It shall be possible to stack and interlock a flow module and battery module in the field to
build a compact, integrated system. It shall also be possible to stack and interlock any combination
of up to four area velocity and/ or ultrasonic flow modules and one or more battery modules in the
field to monitor multiple flow streams at the same time and/ or to obtain redundant measurements. It
shall also be possible to unsiack flow modules to use them at separate sites with separate battery
modules. The flow module shall also be capable of being located up to 3, 300 feet from other flow
modules, with all of the flow modules connected with a twisted pair cable for communication. Each
flow module shall contain its own microprocessor, so that a failure in one flow module shall not
affect the operation of any other stacked and/ or interconnected flow modules.
2.3 The flow module shall be capable of accepting up to two ( 2) flow rate conversions,
each of which can be either a level -to -aura conversion or a level -to -flow rate conversion, allowing
comparison of flow rates calculated using, for example, the Continuity Equation and Manoing' s
Equation. The flow module shall be capable of calculating two ( 2) total flows, each of which shall
be capable of being based on either flow rate conversion. Each total flow calculation shall
accumulate either net, positive, or negative total flow with user -selectable resolution.
3. AREA VELOCITY MEASUREMENT

3. 1
Velocity shall be measured using Doppler ultrasonic or equivalent technology to a
perform in accordance with the specifications below:
3. 1. 1 Minimum velocity range: - 5 to +20 feet / second
3. 1. 2 Minimum accuracy: ± 0. 1 feet / second for velocities of -5 to +5
feet / second ± 2% of reading for velocities
5 feet / second
3. 1. 3 Minimum depth requirement for velocity measurement shall not exceed
0. 1 feet.
3. 2 The area velocity sensor shall have a cable length of 20 feet or greater. The cable
shall terminate in a push -on, quick connect connector so that the sensor can be easily removed and
replaced in the field.
4. LEVEL MEASUREMENT
4. 1
Level shall be measured using Doppler ultrasonic technology or submerged
differential linear integrated circuit pressure transducer.
4. 1. 1 Minimum level range: 0.03 feet to 10 feet
4. 1.
