CALL TO ORDER The Mayor called the meeting to order. PLEDGE The Mayor led in the Pledge of Allegiance. RES 08- 51: SUPPORTING BEDDOWN OF F- 35 AND INTEGRATED TRAINING CENTER The Mayor read the resolution title. A RESOLUTION BY THE TEAM EGLIN MAYOR' S COUNCIL IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE EMERALD COAST MILITARY AFFAIRS COUNCIL TO SUPPORT USAF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BRAC ' 05 DECISION TO BEDDOWN THE JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER ( F- 35) AND THE JOINT INTEGRATED TRAINING CENTER AT EGLIN AFB TO REPLACE THE DEPARTING F- 15 FIGHTER WING. The Mayor reported the Emerald Coast Military Affairs Council ( MAC) held a meeting September 24th and they are trying to get everyone, the Mayors from the surrounding communities including DeFuniak Springs and Freeport, and in addition to the Emerald Coast MAC the Navarre MAC and the Walton County MAC, to sign the resolution. He said he spoke with General Kirk and the Emerald Coast MAC is aware that some of the Cities have adopted and forwarded independent resolutions in support of the F- 35, but General Kirk feels it is more powerful and more of an if impact everyone' s signature is on the same resolution. He said the sense of urgency is because the new Air Force Chief of Staff, General Swartz, will be in a meeting on Monday to talk about the issue and they want to FedEx a hard copy and fax a copy with all the signatures. He said he brought this to Council to determine whether or not they want him to sign the resolution. There was brief discussion on the negative wording of the fourth paragraph regarding the potential for some adverse noise compatibility issues while the rest of the resolution reads in a positive note. The Mayor mentioned that General Kirk said the signatures on it will be more meaningful than the exact wording. He also mentioned that the City of Valparaiso amended the resolution and their Mayor did not sign it as it was presented.
