BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: January 19, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Zan Fedorak SUBJECT: PAWS Contract Amendment Two (2) to extend current contract DEPARTMENT: Purchasing BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of amendment two (2) of the PAWS contract for animal control services to extend the expiration date of the current contract. BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has a current contract to provide protection for, to regulate and control domestic animals for the County. This contract had an expiration date of December 31, 2015. Staff is currently working on a contract which is a result of a procurement process to provide this service in accordance with and pursuant to the authority of Chapters 125 and 828, Florida Statutes, Ordinance 92-25 and in the interest of public health, safety and welfare. Staff is requesting Board approval of Amendment two (2) for an extension of the expiration of the contract to allow staff time to complete negotiation of the contract. All other provisions of the current contract and subsequent amendments shall remain in full force and effect. The proposed contract will focus on the service being provided in compliance with all County ordinances, Florida statutes, and applicable laws and regulations. Reports and documentation that ensure accountability to staff and the citizens of Okaloosa County will be addressed in the contract language. The proposed contract will be brought before the Board for approval. Staff is requesting Board approval of contract Amendment two (2) to extend the expiration date of the current contract to January 31, 2016 and allow it to renew on a month to month basis until the new contract for the service is complete. The Board action, if approved, will be retroactive to December 31, 2015. OPTIONS: Approve/Deny Amendment two (2) of the PAWS contract for animal control services to extend the expiration date to January 31, 2016 and continue month to month if the need arises.
