BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 2, 2013 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ted Corcoran - President, Greater FWB Chamber of Commerce SUBJECT: Visitor - Greater FWB Chamber President Ted Corcoran, President/CEO of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce requests to address the Board on the subject of funding for the presence of five B-25B Mitchell aircraft at the Destin airport in support of the 71st Annual Doolittle Raider Reunion. The attached Powerpoint Presentation outlines the schedule of events for April 17-20, 2013. BACKGROUND: The Doolittle Reunion and the presence of the B-25B aircraft are certain to have an immediate and lasting positive impact on Okaloosa County and its encompassing communities. The reunion will be an important economic generator for the business entities in the county while providing an opportunity to more closely connect with our vital military communities. The reunion and the B-25B’s will surely have a positive impact on the branding, positioning and promotion of Okaloosa County as a destination rich in American heritage and history. The proposed funding would come from two sources. The first amount of $20,000 would come from the Tourist Development Trust Fund, fifth penny “reserve for contingencies” line item. The second amount of $5,000 would come from Northwest Regional Airport marketing funds. The total amount of $25,000 would be used to pay for the expense of the five B-25B aircraft to travel to and from the Destin Airport and perform scheduled fly-by activities. The Tourist Development Department, the Airports Department and special counsel are reviewing this request, and will be prepared to discuss it at the BCC meeting.
