Attention: Mr. Scott Jenkins:
Subject: Geotechnical Services for Stormwater Design at the Proposed Medinab Subdivision
in Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Dear Mr. Jenkins:
As requested, Southern Earth Sciences, Inc., has completed the geotechnical services for
stormwater design at the proposed Medinah Subdivision in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. This
report presents the results of our field and laboratory testing and includes estimated permeability
rates at the bottom of the proposed pond.
On January 11, 2013, personnel with our firm traveled to the project site and completed
the field testing for the above referenced project. As requested, one ( 1) hand auger boring was
performed to a depth of approximately 10 feet below the existing ground surface. The test
location was established in the field by using a 300 -foot tape and estimating right angles with
reference to existing landmarks; therefore, our test location should be considered approximate.
See the attached Figure for our approximate test location.
Laboratory investigative work consisted of physical examination of samples obtained
during the hand auger operation. Soil samples were visually classified in the laboratory in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. The log of our hand auger boring is
attached. The elevation of our test location was interpolated from the topographic information
that we were provided; therefore, the elevation of our test location should be considered
approximate.
The soils encountered throughout the depth of our hand auger boring was sands. The
sands varied in color and texture, which ranged from clean to slightly silty sands. On the date of
our field testing, the groundwater level was not encountered within the depth of our hand auger
boring. However, fluctuations in the water table depths will occur due to seasonal
precipitation/ evapotranspiration differences and tidal influences.
LABORATORY TESTING FOR STORMWATER DESIGN:
While the hand auger boring performed for this project are representative of subsurface
soil conditions at their respective locations/depths and for their respective vertical reaches, local
variations of the subsurface materials, and permeability rates are anticipated. Soil descriptions
