BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: September 15, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: TDC Appointments DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: 2,4,5 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to reappoint Martin Owen and Thom Gossom and to newly appoint Melissa Matern to four-year terms on the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council (Oct. 1, 2015 - Sep. 30, 2019). BACKGROUND: The non-elected members of the Council currently include four (4) Owner/Operator members and two (2) Tourism Industry members. Of those members whose terms expire September 30, 2015, two (2) are Owner/Operator and one (1) is Tourism Industry. Therefore, at least one (1) and no more than two (2) of the individuals appointed to the TDC must be an Owner/Operator. Eight applications were received. The Selection Committee convened a duly noticed public meeting on August 19, 2015 and voted to recommend appointment of the following individuals to four-year terms (Oct. 1, 2015 - Sep. 30, 2019): Martin Owen (Owner/Operator) - reappointment Thom Gossom (Tourism Industry) - reappointment Melissa Matern (Tourism Industry) - new appointment Council member Rachel Joyce is moving out of the area and submitted her resignation on August 28. Her seat will remain vacant until Melissa Matern’s term takes effect October 1. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Approve and adopt Resolution appointing members of the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council.
