STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the BP Strategic Marketing Plan in the amount
of $125,724.
BACKGROUND: To complete the corrective action related to Findings 18 and 19 of the
Auditor General's Preliminary and Tentative Audit Findings, a total of $125,724 in tourist
development tax funds has been transferred into BP accounts so the funds may be used for the
purposes under the BP funding agreement.
Staff and the agency propose to develop a new Gulf-to-Table campaign to establish Emerald
Coast as the premiere destination for unique dining and fishing experiences. Campaign tactics
would include:
• Develop Gulf-to-Table COLLATERAL materials to raise awareness
• Highlight current Emerald Coast RESTAURANTS that provide Gulf-to-Table options
• Develop UNIQUE video, digital and social content to capitalize on the product
• Create a digital and printed FISHING GUIDE to provide in depth information about
Emerald Coast offerings
• Implement a robust LANDING PAGE to house all information and provide insight to
consumers
Pursuant to Section D.200(2) of the Tourist Development Department Operations and Procedures
Manual, all advertising/marketing expenditures made during the fiscal year shall be in
conformity with the approved Strategic Marketing Plan (SMP). The Strategic Marketing Plan
shall be presented to the TDC for review and recommendation, and final approval shall be by the
Board in the form of a Resolution.
The Tourist Development Council voted to recommend approval of the BP SMP at its May 28,
2015 meeting.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution 2015-__ adopting the Okaloosa County Tourist
Development Department BP Strategic Marketing Plan; a copy of which is attached.
