This is a request to ratify the Chairman’s signature on the FY2015 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program Application and on-line submission by Contracts and Grants. ' BACKGROUND: I respectfully request the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners ratification of the Okaloosa County Clerk of Courts (on behalf of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office) submission of an on- line application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the FY2015 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program. The total grant request is $175,000 (Federal Share) to purchase a Morpho Trak (or equivalent) latent print processing station. The total cost of the equipment is $187,000. If the grant is approved, we will hire a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) to operate the equipment and to mentor our existing Crime Scene Staff as they progress through a certification process. If approved, I will include the CLPE position in future budget documents. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Request the Board of County Commissioners review and approve the on-line application submission by the Contracts & Grants office and ratify the Chairman’s signature on the application. Also, authorize the Chairman to sign the grant agreement, if awarded, and all future grant documents during the term of the grant and authorize the Contracts & Grants office to submit the on-line grant documents.
