About this source
A retrospective eyewitness account, written about eighteen years after the burial. Contains conflicting chronology, a mistaken Baltimore birthplace and disputed funeral details. Its claims are evidence of Snodgrass’s account, not established facts. Received transcription header says May; issue identifier and notice of forthcoming April issue support March. The supplied guide omitted final article leaf91; this edition includes it.

Retrospective accounts with different emphases: Snodgrass describes the burial and absence of an outer coffin case; Moran describes coffin construction and claimed payment. These concern different features and do not independently corroborate each other.
Compare two retrospective descriptions of the 1849 funeral. Snodgrass recalls three or four followers excluding undertaker and drivers; Elliott reports eight or nine and identifies possible participants. Counting scope and elapsed time differ; neither should be treated as an uncontested attendance list.
