BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: August 5, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: John Hofstad
SUBJECT: Public Hearing Request - Okaloosa Island MSBU Additional Street Light
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT:
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request to schedule a public hearing on September 16, 2014 to
receive input regarding the addition of a street light on the west side of 910 Santa Rosa Blvd., Ft.
Walton Beach, within the Okaloosa Island Municipal Services Benefit Unit (MSBU).
BACKGROUND: A request for an additional street light to be added to the west side of 910
Santa Rosa Blvd. was made by Robert Beaudoin, a resident at 909 Santa Rosa Blvd., Ft. Walton
Beach. Previously the guard station for the Air Force resided near this location and provided
sufficient lighting. The lighting was removed when the Air Force relocated the guard station.
Mr. Beaudoin's request was investigated by the Okaloosa Island MSBU subcommittee. The
subcommittee presented their findings to the Okaloosa Island Leaseholders Association (OILA)
at a meeting held June 1, 2014. The proposed light was discussed and agreed upon. Due to
existing Gulf Power infrastructure at the requested site there are no installation fees. The
monthly fee of $6.20 will be absorbed by the MSBU and no additional assessment will be
required. A public hearing is being requested to allow interested parties to voice any comments
or concerns.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the public hearing.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve a public hearing to be held on September 16, 2014 to
receive comments concerning the installation of an additional street light on the west side of 910
Santa Rosa Blvd.
