BACKGROUND: 654Limo Chauffeured Services has submitted an Operational & Capital Funding Request form to wrap the back side of chauffeured vehicles with Emerald Coast branding. However, this marketing agreement would be more appropriately evaluated in the context of the annual strategic marketing plan. As part of the County’s transit services contract with Maruti Fleet, buses will be wrapped with Emerald Coast branding at no charge. The buses will run on a regular schedule and are highly visible to visitors. Wrapping private business vehicles at a cost when public transit is being wrapped at no cost is not a prudent use of tax dollars. OPTIONS: Approve or Deny RECOMMENDATION: Deny the funding request. Mr. Foreman commented on the difficulty of holding down taxes and providing support to special events. Chairman Peterson stated using TDC funds for this purpose is against the law and reviewed TDT funds budgeted to Destin to support tourism activities. He doesn’t feel it is right to vote on something that’s illegal. Mr. Rice motioned to table the item and Ms. Matern seconded. Mr. Anderson stated he is aware of proposed legislation being considered to fund law enforcement from bed tax. Mr. Craul stated he doesn’t think the decision will change even if tabled unless the law changes, and the TDC is bound to follow the law. Commissioner Windes proposed an amendment to tables the motion until such time as legislation allows for it.
