BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 16, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: Memorandum of Understanding for the Artificial Reef Initiative DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: 2,4,5 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the Memorandum of Understanding with Eglin AFB for the Artificial Reef Initiative and authorize the Chairman to sign. BACKGROUND: Matrix Design Group and Taylor Engineering worked with County staff and Eglin Air Force officials to forge a new Public-Public Partnership that reduces the amount of funding necessary for the Air Force to dispose of waste concrete from the base as well as reduces Okaloosa County’s costs associated with obtaining material for the artificial reef program. This program is now known as the "Concrete to Reefs Initiative" and has become an important part of Eglin's Community Partnership Initiative and the Tri-County Community Partnership Initiative. The Memorandum of Understanding memorializes the Eglin/County partnership and provides guidance in continuing and expanding this program into the foreseeable future. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Eglin prior to the recent Change of Command. This MOU was presented to the TDC for informational purposes at its May 28 meeting. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Memorandum of Understanding for the Artificial Reef Initiative and authorize the Chairman to sign and date his signature.
