CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MAY 25, 2010
A meeting of the Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee was held on
Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 11: 30 am in the Conference Room of the City Hall Annex located at 105
Miracle Strip Parkway SW with the following members present:
Lewis Jennings, Chairman; Mary Copeland; Joyce Ponder, Vice -Chairman
Absent: Paula Childres, Barry Gray
Also present: Tim Bolduc, Building Official; Cathy Ducharme, Sr. Staff Assistant
CALL TO ORDER
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 11: 30 am.
INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS AND LOCATIONS
Mr. Bolduc explained that the Citizens Advisory Committee ( CAC) approved a total of $ 37, 776. 80 for
infrastructure improvements throughout eligible areas of the CDBG programs to include improvements to
sidewalks, multi -use paths, curb and gutter, and others. Mr. Bolduc continued that the areas for
improvements will be selected by the CAC on an as- needed basis and a list of projects will be developed
throughout the year and added to the Annual Action Plan.
Mr. Bolduc advised that the funding under this infrastructure improvement should be spent before the
end of the fiscal year.
Mr. Bolduc described the project will consist of adding a new sidewalk on Jet Drive in front of Fort Walton
Machine, three handicap ramps and a new crosswalk at the intersection of Jet Drive and Robinwood, as
well as addressing the drainage issue along a portion of Jet Drive. The Committee learned that Fort
Walton Machine has recently expanded their business and the new sidewalk and crosswalk will enable
employees of the company to safely cross the street to get to their vehicles. Mr. Bolduc stated the owner
of Fort Walton Machine will contribute funds to the project in a public /private partnership.
Mr. Bolduc explained this project was selected because it can be accomplished this year and is inside
the scope of the CDBG.
Discussion included the drainage issue on Lovejoy Road and a possible partnership of the City and
County. Mr. Bolduc reported Staff did look at that as a possible project, but noted the funding available
would not be sufficient for that large of a project.
Further discussion included safety issues
