BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: December 15, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Zan Fedorak SUBJECT: Approval to present Paul Lawson’s service handgun upon his retirement DEPARTMENT: Purchasing BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request Board approval to award Paul Lawson’s service handgun upon his retirement. (District: All) BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: Paul Lawson, Interim Public Safety Director, is scheduled to retire on December 31, 2015. Mr. Lawson has served the County since 1989 when he began his employment as a Correctional Officer III. He has received numerous promotions during his career, to include the Chief Correctional Officer for which he served since 2011. In July of 2015 he was asked to assume the duties of the Interim Public Safety Director. During his service to the Corrections Department he was issued a service handgun. The Corrections Department has requested to present Mr. Lawson’s service handgun to him upon his retirement. Florida Statute 112.193 states that an employer of correctional officers may present the service handgun upon their retirement. Staff requests Board approval to issue the service handgun as noted below to Mr. Paul Lawson. (Pictures attached.) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the presentation of Mr. Paul Lawson’s service handgun, serial number ZAS698, upon his retirement.
