BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: April 16, 2013
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Elliot Kampert
SUBJECT: Approval of Enterprise Florida Military Base Protection Grant
DEPARTMENT: Growth Management
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Enterprise Florida, through its Military Affairs program, has
approved $8,580.00 in Military Base Protection grant funds for Okaloosa County. The BCC
authorized application for this grant in the December 18, 2012 regular meeting after the
Okaloosa County Economic Development Council identified it as a source for non-federal match
funding. Receipt of the grant is contingent upon the county’s acceptance of the attached Military
Base Protection Agreement.
BACKGROUND: The 2009 Eglin Joint Land Use Study includes recommendations for
fostering mission compatibility of surrounding communities. The Northwest Florida Military
Sustainability Partnership was established to coordinate implementation of the JLUS
recommendations across the tri-county region with Okaloosa County as the lead agency. The
implementation process continues with award to the county of Office of Economic Adjustment
(OEA) Grant EN-06107-13-03 on February 28, 2013. The attached Enterprise Florida contract
for a Military Base Protection Grant provides the required match funding for the OEA grant.
There is no cost to Okaloosa County associated with this grant; no other local matching funds are
required.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
authorize the Chairman to sign the attached agreement for Enterprise Florida grant funding and
any future grant documents during the life of the grant.
