BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: September 2, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: John Hofstad
SUBJECT: Boundary Fencing on Okaloosa Island @ The El Matador
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BCC DISTRICT: District 2
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to solicit quotes for the replacement of the
boundary fencing between The El Matador and Eglin Air Force property. Funding for this effort
is to be provided through the Capital Outlay Reserves Fund.
BACKGROUND: Pursuant to the Deed Reservations stated in the conveyance of the Okaloosa
Island property from the United States of America, Secretary of the Army, said conveyance
recorded in Official Record Book 280 at page 298, that a climb-proof, chain link fence eight (8)
feet in height with three (3) strands of barbed wire at the top, shall be constructed and maintained
by and at the expense of Okaloosa County (party of the second part) at the Westerly limit of the
area conveyed.
After Hurricane Opal, approximately 560' of the fencing was repaired and approximately 330'
was replaced. The fence has deteriorated and is again in need of total replacement. Staff has
discussed the funding of this project with the Finance Department and it was determined that the
funding should be provided through the Capital Outlay Reserves Fund.
The estimated cost of the project is $30,000.00 (approximately 1200' x $24.50 ft.).
OPTIONS: Approve/disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the solicitation of quotes for the fence replacement and
approve funding from the Capital Outlay Reserves Fund.
