BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: October 21, 2014 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Don and Susan Stillwell Park Designations DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: A request has been received to name the walking path at Don and Susan Stillwell Park as "LANGLEY LANE" and the disc golf putting area as "KEETON'S KORNER". BACKGROUND: Don and Fran Langley live across from the pump station at the old Essex Wastewater Treatment Plant. Beginning in 1999 they petitioned to try and get the plant closed, no action was taken at that time. Don and Susan Stillwell submitted another petition at the October, 2001 County Commission meeting and the decommission process started. During the decommission process Don and Fran Langley were very involved as they hosted several meetings with commissioners, county staff, and neighbors in their home. In consideration of their efforts in the development of the Park, the request from neighboring citizens was submitted to name the walking path "LANGLEY LANE. Additionally, another resident Mr. Joel Keeton, was involved with the development of the Park and the request was made to name the disc golf putting area "KEETON'S KORNER". A Resolution has been prepared officially recognizing the efforts of both Don and Fran Langley and Joel Keeton by designating the walking path as "Langley Lane" and the disc golf putting area as "Keeton's Korner". OPTIONS: Approve/disapprove the Resolutions naming the walking path at Don and Susan Stillwell Park as "LANGLEY LANE" and the disc golf putting area as "KEETON'S KORNER".
