August 8, 2006 Mr. Mike Anderson, Mayor City of Fort Walton Beach P. O. Box 4009 Fort Walton Beach, FL 32549 Dear Mr. Anderson: On August 22, 2006, at 5: 30pm, the council will meet in executive session to consider a proposal from Lamar Advertising concerning the beautification of billboards located within the City. The following is a briefre-cap of that proposal: LAMAR: 1) There are 7 remaining billboard structures in Fort Walton Beach. These structures are all located on Federally Aided Primary arteries. 2) Lamar would remove all 7 structures. There are various size faces on the structures. Some are stacked and some are side by side. 3) Lamar would build 4 new structures- standardize the face size and conform to new design criteria. See attached before and after pictures. 4) All of the new structures would meet current State and County wind loading criteria, OSHA safety standards and FOOT requirements. All stacked and side by side units would be eliminated. CITY: 1) The City would join with Lamar to modify the existing, 02/ 20/ 02 Settlement Agreement. A draft has been presented to staff. 2) No ordinance changes would be necessary. 3) City would grant 4 new building permits to Lamar for construction of the new structures. We believe that the proposal is in the spirit and vision for beautification of Fort Walton Beach. This could be a win- win solution. Please call with any questions.
