BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: May 5, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: Peter Mayer Contract Renewal DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval for Chairman to sign a contract extension with Peter A. Mayer Advertising, contract C12-2007-TDC, for marketing, advertising, public relations, website management, research, social media, and networking. BACKGROUND: The current contract for marketing, advertising, public relations, website management, research, social media, and networking is held by Peter A. Mayer Advertising and expires in September 2015. The contract provides for two (2) one-year renewals. Strategic Marketing Plan development begins in March to be effective on October 1st of the fiscal year. Aligning advertising agency contract periods with the budget planning cycle ensures the annual Strategic Marketing Plan is executed by the same agency that develops it. Furthermore, the same advertising team isn’t likely to be motivated to develop a strategic marketing plan and respond to an RFQ at the same time. To this end, staff recommends extending the current contract 17 months to February 2017 to bring the contract out of the fiscal year renewal cycle and align it with the strategic marketing plan development cycle. The Tourist Development Council voted to recommend extending the current contract through February 2017 at its February 26 meeting. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Approve a seventeen (17) month contract extension through February 2017 with Peter A.
