STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Okaloosa County Department of Corrections requests
authorization for staff to submit on-line renewal of a grant application to receive funds from the
Department of Education's Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' National
School Lunch Program.
BACKGROUND: The Department of Corrections, in cooperation with Okaloosa County School
Board, provides educational opportunities for juveniles and youthful offenders in accordance
with FSS 951.176. Consequently, the Department of Corrections is eligible to participate in the
National School Lunch Program, and to receive reimbursement for expenses related to meals for
juvenile inmates who qualify for the program. This program is renewable annually and in FY12,
the Department received reimbursement in the amount of $15,185.30
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: We recommend the Board authorize the staff’s submission of the on-
line grant application renewal and the Chairman to sign any other grant documents for the term
of the grant.
