BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: June 3, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Don Turner
SUBJECT: Sheriff's New Building - CM Contract
DEPARTMENT: Facility Maintenance
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: (FM) Request BCC approval of the proposed contract with Lord &
Son to provide Construction Management services for the construction of the Sheriff's new
building in Shalimar.
BACKGROUND: At the May 6, 2014, BCC meeting, the Board authorized staff to enter into
negotiations with Lord & Son, they being the firm recommended by the selection committee
duly appointed by the BCC, to provide construction management services for the new building to
be built at the Sheriff's Shalimar compound. Those negotiations resulted in the proposed
contract attached to this item.
The CM fees associated with this contract will be $10,000 for pre-construction services plus
construction phase services fees equal to 5% of the total construction costs. It is staff's
recommendation that the Board approve the proposed contract. Further, staff recommends that
$75,000 currently in the Reserves for Future Capital Outlay account (301-3160-599300) be
transferred to Sheriff - Shalimar Building (301-3160-562224) to fund the contract.
RECOMMENDATIONS: (FM) Request BCC approval of the proposed contract with Lord &
Son to provide Construction Management services for the construction of the Sheriff's new
building in Shalimar and to fund the contract as proposed and to authorize the Chairman to
execute the documents.
