BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: November 3, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: Airline Recruitment DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to allocate $3M in tourist development tax revenues for marketing to support the Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport’s airline recruitment efforts. BACKGROUND: The FY 2016 budget includes $500,000 from the 2nd and 3rd pennies to provide marketing support in origin cities for a new airline carrier at Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport. Another $500,000 is earmarked for FY 2017. The Airports Department requested $2M in FY 2016 and $1M in FY 2017 in marketing support at the October 22 Tourist Development Council meeting. The TDC voted to recommend approval of an additional $1.5M for FY 2016 and an additional $500K for FY 2017 from 2nd, 3rd, and 5th reserves. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Approve the allocation of $3M in tourist development tax revenues for marketing to support the Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport’s airline recruitment efforts.
