Some trauma medical equipment such as torniquets and bandages are currently available to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department (FWBPD); however, these items have been pieced together from incomplete kits due to funding constraints. Due to this, not all officers have the same equipment, and the equipment available is currently stored differently in each vehicle. This incongruence causes confusion, wastes time, and can result in a lack of desired equipment on scene which can have a major impact on life saving measures. New kits will include items such as torniquets to stop bleeding from appendages, bandages to stop bleeding in the torso, shears to remove clothing and allow for injury access and assessment, a CPR face shield to protect officers from bodily fluid transfer during CPR, a space blanket to insulate the patient and reduce shock, saline solution for cleaning wounds to reduce infection, and chest seals to seal chest wounds and prevent tension pneumothorax. Each TFAK Trauma Kit will be mounted in a prescribed way within the police vehicle and contain the same equipment, allowing officers to find the kit quickly, saving valuable time in emergency situations. Scope of Work The City of Fort Walton Beach (FWB) will use grant funds to purchase TFAK Trauma Kits for the Fort Walton Beach Police Department. The medical kits will be attached to the police vehicle in the same place, so any officer may enter any vehicle and find the exact same medical equipment. Inside each kit, officers will find emergency items such as torniquets, bandages, shears, a CPR face shield, a space blanket, saline solution, and chest seals. This much needed emergency equipment and supplies provide essential tools to deliver immediate care in critical moments for emergency personnel, citizens, and FWB visitors.
