RESOLUTION __________ A RESOLUTION OF OKALOOSA COUNTY, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PROJECT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF BROOKS BRIDGE WITH THE FOLLOWING ALTERNATIVES: THE LEFT ALTERNATIVE FOR THE BRIDGE ALIGNMENT; ALTERNATIVE A FOR THE TYPICAL SECTION OF THE BRIDGE; AND THE ELIMINATION OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE SANTA ROSA BOULEVARD INTERSECTION ON OKALOOSA ISLAND (OPTION C OR D); AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, Okaloosa County realizes that the existing Brooks Bridge is nearing the end of its service life and needs to be replaced; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting a Project Development and Environmental (PD&E) study to explore various alternatives and alignments for the replacement of the current Brooks Bridge; and WHEREAS, FDOT held a Public Workshop on May 17, 2016 at the Emerald Coast Convention Center on Okaloosa Island to present and receive public input on the proposed alternatives and alignments for the replacement bridge. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT OKALOOSA COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: Section 1: Okaloosa County Support for Brooks Bridge Replacement Alternatives & Alignments The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners support the following alternatives and alignments for the replacement of Brooks Bridge as presented by FDOT; 1. Proposed Bridge Alignment: Left Alternative, which proposes to construct the new bridge structure to the north of the existing bridge structure; this alternative has the lease impact on properties with the City of Fort Walton Beach. 2. Typical Bridge Section: Alternative A, which proposes a wider bridge section to accommodate more pedestrian and bicycle traffic with a twelve (12) foot wide shared use path. 3. Santa Rosa Boulevard Intersection: Option C or D, which eliminates the existing traffic signal at this intersection on Okaloosa Island and improves traffic flow. Section 2: Transmittal of Resolution Upon approval of this resolution by the Board of County Commissioners, the adopted Resolution will be forwarded to the FDOT and the Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization (OWTPO) for consideration. Section 3: Effective Date This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption by the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners and signature of its Chairman.
