We are a Federal 501(3)(c) non-profit registered corporation in the State of Florida What is our purpose? To support, educate, and advocate for the Guardian ad Litem program of the First Judicial Circuit in Okaloosa and Walton Counties as described in our Mission statement. How is this done? All activities by the Foundation are accomplished by voluntary contributions. The Foundation has a formal procedure where Guardian ad Litems justify specific needs to their supervisor and in turn to the circuit director for review and approval. Depending on the amount involved the request for assistance is ultimately reviewed and approved or disapproved by either a standing three-person committee or by the Foundation Board of Directors. All members of the committee and the Board of Directors are unpaid volunteers as are all volunteer Guardian ad Litems. Who is responsible for the approved amount? The check is made out to the Guardian ad Litem who justified the request. They are responsible for making the purchase at the most cost-effective source, Good Will, Thrift Store, etc, if possible. What kind of things are funded? The specific need varies with the age of the child, the financial level of the family, even the county, as well as the nature of the need. Typical needs are winter coats, shoes, clothing, school supplies, school fees, etc. Some counties provide things like diapers, others do not. How is fund usage verified? All Guardian ad Litems requesting assistance must provide a receipt within 30 days to the Treasurer of the Fund who is a volunteer Certified Public Accountant. All expenditures are subject to audit. Is my contribution tax-deductible? Yes. 100%, What percentage of contributions are used for administrative fees, etc. Zero. All contributions are used to support the Guardian ad Litem program directly and are administered by unpaid volunteers.
