Recommended Action : Motion to designate (board

Board's Legislative Liaison
and (board member) to serve
as the alternate on the Florida
School Boards Association
Legislative Committee
through June 2016.
Public Content
In order to encourage equal representation of all school boards in our legislative efforts, the
FSBA Bylaws call for each school board to annually designate a school board member, and an
alternate, to serve on the FSBA Legislative Committee.
During the Annual Summer Conference in June, the FSBA membership approved a revision to
the FSBA Bylaws that changed the time frame for the designation of FSBA Legislative
Committee representative so that it would align with the time frame for school board members to
sign up to serve on other FSBA Committees and Subcommittees. Prior to this Bylaws revision,
school boards were asked to make this selection during the annual Organization Meeting that is
typically held in November. Under this former Bylaws provision, the term of service for the
district Legislative Committee representative and alternate would span from November 2014
through November 2015. However, as amended, the FSBA Bylaws now require each
district school board to designate a Legislative Committee representative and alternate
annually in June. As a result, the term of service for the district Legislative Committee
representative and alternate would span from June 2015 to June 2016.
As we transition to this new time frame to implement this Bylaws revision, we ask each school
board to pursue one of these two options:
Option 1 -- Retain your district’s current FSBA Legislative Committee representative and
alternate through June 2016.
Option 2 -- Designate a new FSBA Legislative Committee representative and alternate to serve
from the date of the designation through June 2016.
Mr. Destin currently serves as the Board's liaison and Dr. White as the alternate.
