year 2024-2025, presented by Julie
Perry, Chief Financial Officer, and

Meeting : Jul 8, 2024 - Workshop Meeting
Type : Action (Consent)
Recommended Action : Motion to authorize advertisement of
the proposed Preliminary and
Tentative Budget and Millage Rate for
fiscal year 2024-2025.
Public Content
The District is required by law to advertise notice of its intent to tentatively adopt a millage rate and budget. These advertisements
include the "Budget Summary," "Notice of Proposed Tax Increase," and "Notice of Tax for School Capital Outlay." The "Notice of
Proposed Tax Increase" is required if the projected revenue is higher than the previous year. The projected revenue could be
higher due to increased property values, increased millage, or a combination of both.
Millage rates include the following:
1. Required Local Effort - This millage is set by the State. The District must levy this millage in order to receive FEFP
funding from the State. The District cannot operate without this funding.
2. Discretionary Operating - This millage rate is 0.748. The State expects all Districts to levy this millage and includes this
projected funding in the FEFP.
3. Capital Improvement - This millage rate is 1.500. This is the amount the State allows Districts to levy. The State only
provides Capital funding to charter schools.
The advertisements must be in a newspaper of general paid circulation in the county or on the School District's website. The size,
format, and placement of the advertisements are specified in the Truth-In-Millage (TRIM) guidelines and must not be modified.
The advertisements will be on the School District's website on July 26, 2024. The direct link is
www.okaloosaschools.com/page/public-notices. This page may also be accessed from the School District's homepage by clicking
on "School District" and then "Public Notices."
A public hearing to tentatively adopt a millage rate and budget must be held not less than 2 days or more than 5 days after the day
that the advertisement is first published. Accordingly, the public hearing to tentatively adopt the millage rate and the budget is
scheduled for Monday, July 29, 2024, beginning at 6:15 p.m.
