Subject : 3.1 Recognition of Mr. Jeffrey
Rink, Music Director,
Northwest Florida Symphony
Orchestra, presented by the
Superintendent
Meeting : Jun 25, 2018 - Regular
Meeting
Type : Recognition
Public Content
Mr. Rink will be presented with a Proclamation for his contribution to the students of the Okaloosa
County School District.
Appreciation of Mr. Jeffrey Rink
Mr. Jeffrey Rink, Music Director, has served as the conductor of the Northwest Florida Symphony
Orchestra since July 2007. During his tenure, students from our district have been invited each year to
participate in programs such as KATS (Kids at the Symphony), Link Up with Carnegie Hall, 5th grade
concerts, and other community outreach programs.
Since 2008, nearly 100 youth from our district’s elementary, middle, and high schools have attended
NFSO concerts via the Kids at the Symphony (KATS) program free of charge and as part of the
experience enjoy an on-stage visit with the conductor. What an exciting opportunity for our children to
see the scale of the orchestra and the inner workings of producing a musical performance!
In 2012, the NFSO was the first to bring Carnegie Hall’s Link Up! Program to the region with a free year-
long music curriculum and fun classroom activities that culminate in an interactive concert with the
symphony at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Across each year, our elementary music educators use
Carnegie’s curriculum to prepare their students to sing or play musical selections on a recorder with the
orchestra at the spring Link Up performance. In the past six years, approximately 9,500 students have
completed at least one of the following performances under Mr. Rink’s direction: Orchestra Sings,
Orchestra Rocks, Orchestra Moves, or Orchestra Swings. It is a sight to see: an audience full of finely
dressed elementary students poised and ready for Mr. Rink’s cue to begin singing or playing with the
symphony.
In addition to KATS and Link Up, Mr. Rink has continued the tradition of inviting fifth grade students to
free annual concerts each spring. At these concerts, students have been treated to specialized youth
oriented programming that allows each to experience the beauty and emotion of music.
Mr. Rink, we wish to let you know how much we appreciate all you have done to support the music
programs in our district and wanted to take a moment at this meeting to publicly thank you and wish
you well in your next endeavors. Our students will miss your lively conducting skills, our teachers will
miss your musical leadership, and our district will miss your presence in our musical programs.

This agreement will provide the District with merchant online payment services for school food
service student lunch accounts, child care services, school internal funds and all other district-wide
