Request funding for a Program Director - Community Affairs position to provide support to the Okaloosa
County Public Schools Foundation (OPSF). The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-
profit community based public schools foundation which was established in 1995. The Foundation
serves the educational needs of the School District by establishing partnerships with schools,
businesses, military and community based entities for the grant funding of special programs and
projects. The Foundation has funded educational enrichment programs including teacher grants for
unique programs, student scholars in the Take Stock in Children Program, community educational
initiatives, and student and teacher recognition awards. In the past, the School Board has provided
funding for a Program Director position to support the Foundation; however, in more recent years the
funding was eliminated as a result of state and federal revenue reductions to the District. As a result,
the Foundation has not had a supervisory position which is responsible for increasing the awareness of
the OPSF, its mission and establishing a cohesive and district-wide fund development plan. The
estimated budget amount is based on a twelve month full-time position; however, the position may be
less than full-time depending on contract negotiations.
