The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation (OPSF) wishes to apply for an Impact 100 Northwest
Florida grant of $107,000 to create a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine
(STEMM) based education program in six high school Science clubs and the Okaloosa STEMM
center through the use of 3D printers. This program will teach students how to plan, design,
build and fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and culminate in a 3 part annual "Grand Prix"
race of UAV's. The competitions will provide an opportunity for students to compete
against other schools and designs. It will also provide an opportunity for us to have
community partners participate in the competitions.
This program will be part of extra-curricular activities, and it is not anticipated to add any
additional expense to the District. The grant will pay for the equipment, start up, and other
expenses, and the OPSF will work with our community partners for additional funding.
The Impact 100 grants must be made by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the OPSF
qualifies to apply for the grant.
This grant application is due to Impact 100 NWF on July 15th. With the approval of the
Okaloosa County School Board on July 13th, 2015, we will submit the completed application
to Impact 100 NWF. If awarded, funding would occur in the November 2015 time frame.
