The Governor has allocated, through Enterprise Florida and the Florida Department of Economic
Opportunity, $85 million. This is a grant, The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, was created to promote
economic opportunity by improving infrastructure and enhancing workforce training. That’s where we
come in. The training programs offered at the state colleges and technical colleges are encouraged to
work with their local Career Source agencies to propose a grant project to fulfill the needs of local
workforce. Projects are approved on the Governor’s desk on a first come, first served basis. At this
point, the grant is down to $35 million dollars. So, we are in a hurry.
We have worked with CareerSource to put our project together. The project we have developed is to
build our healthcare programs, and the project title is “Building Healthier Careers.” The total project is
$1.16 million and covers everything from adding a simulation laboratory for nursing to paying for
certification test for two years for students enrolled in new healthcare programs. The project meets all
parameters of the project and has been approved by CareerSource.
